Seeing BJ again was good. I'm more relaxed for having seen him. That's the difference between him and Trapper; BJ makes me feel a little saner, a little more centered. He was my rock in Korea, my sedative. Trapper was anything but.
We laughed, we went insane, we got mad, but BJ's pranks never had that touch of malice in them, he never grinned like a maniac and I never hated him as much, at times, as I hated Trapper. I don't think I could have made it without him.
Korea wasn't the place for a river, and that's what Trapper was. He pushed and encouraged, the way BJ would sometimes hold me back. His passionate nature encouraged the best and worst of me, the way BJ's gentle goodness soothed me, made me think about things. Trapper...
